In this project, we take two Swiss-based biodiversity and global change initiatives (ValPar.Ch and URPP-GCB) as our starting point.

Using the lessons learned from (not) dealing with structural power dynamics in these initiatives, we are co-developing tools to assist with understanding and integrating critical social theory in future initiatives.

Research Activities

In this research section, we showcase our current research activities and their progress. Our main activities include a survey for initial insights, participant interviews as a follow-up, and workshops to co-develop and test tools. As a final output, we are developing a toolbox in line with our mission. By now, we have analyzed the survey results and are currently working on the interviews.

Survey

Survey results...

The questionnaire analysis provides initial insights into which critical social science concepts are difficult to understand and how participants perceive the power dynamics within their programs and projects. Although there seems to be some consensus in the understanding of the concept of transformative change, the results also point to uncertainties in the understanding of CSS concepts and their role within transdisciplinary projects.

As a first research activity, a survey was developed and filled out by current and former participants of ValPar.CH and URPP-GCB. The survey serves as an instrumental first step in the identification of best practices and areas of struggle for building our tools.

Interviews

In progress...

We are still looking for interview participants. If you are a current or former member of ValPar.CH or URPP-GCB we would be delighted to hear from you!

At the moment we are planning interviews to dive deeper into learning more about which strategies or tools are needed to facilitate the understanding and integration of critical social theory in TTCI.
